Commissioner Donaldson called the meeting to order at 5:00pm
Commissioner Ryan made the motion to open the meeting to the public and Commissioner Gutowski seconded the motion. Motion carried
Commissioner Zappulla made the motion to approve minutes October 4, 2011 minutes amended with the correction that Commissioner Ryan was in attendance. Commissioner Ryan seconded the motion. The motion carried.
- Rose Ponte took a few minutes to publically thank Cindy Donaldson for her work on the EDC. Cindy was instrumental in moving two successful initiatives, the creation of ACT, and the higher education initiative. She will be greatly missed. Cindy shared that she enjoyed her time with EDC and is enthusiastic about momentum that has taken place over the past two years. She will continue to finds ways to contribute in Torrington.
- Approval 2012 Calendar: The calendar for 2012 was presented. The EDC will meet the first Tuesday of the month except in July and August. . Commissioner Ryan made the motion to approve the 2012 calendar and Commissioner Zappulla seconded the motion. The motion carried.
- TDC –City of Torrington- UCONN Arts Study. This was a very informative collaborative. Three cities, that used arts to revitalize their downtowns, were studied and a ½ day information session to discuss the study was held in City Hall. Follow up exercises include collaborating with UCONN Torrington campus to bring some programming to downtown as well as continuing with our efforts to bring people downtown by offering events such as Main Street Market Place.
- 2012 Projects. In order to set 2012 goals Rose Ponte thought it was necessary to detail activities her office has been involved in over the last year. Rose distributed an information sheet outlining what her office is currently involved with. Commissioners were asked to review the sheet and be prepared to discuss goals at the next meeting.
- New Business. Commissioner Donaldson nominated Jim Thibault to replace her as commissioner. He will think about it and get back to the group.
